ABOUT THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN MAROVITZ SCHOLARSHIP FUND OF ANSHE SHOLOM B'NAI ISRAEL
The Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Fund is available to ASBI full members in good standing for financial assistance towards Jewish day school, beginning with first grade. Awards are based on financial need and on the recommendations of both the Marovitz Committee and FACTS Management. Please note that the Marovitz Fund is a fund of last resort; applicants are required to seek funds from all other sources—including day school financial aid—in order to be eligible to be considered for Marovitz Fund support.
Please direct any and all questions to the Fund Administrator Hayley Leventhal via email at marovitz@asbi.org. All Marovitz inquiries and application materials will be kept completely private and will not be shared with any other synagogue staff or leadership.
Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel Congregation is indebted to Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz, a"h, for his generosity to the synagogue and to the Marovitz Scholarship Fund.

RULES FOR APPLYING FOR A MAROVITZ SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
- The Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Fund is a fund of last resort; applicants are required to seek funds from all other sources before being considered for Marovitz support for day school tuition. Parents/guardians requesting Marovitz funds are required to report on their efforts to get scholarship aid from other sources, including funds made available by the day school itself, their families, and other charitable institutions. The parents/guardians must submit the award letters and/or refusal letters for all applicants.
- Decisions to award Marovitz Scholarships will be based primarily on financial need, but the Marovitz Fund Committee retains the right to take any other factors into consideration. Scholarships will only be awarded for Jewish Day Schools that meet the goals of the Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel community. There is no requirement, however, that a day school be affiliated with any particular movement within Judaism. The Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Fund offers financial assistance for students beginning with the first grade.
- Applicants must fill out the application form below completely, including all information requested in the family statement. They must also submit copies of the family's 2024 IRS Tax Forms (W-2’s, 1040's, and 1099’s) through the FACTS website, and must submit their 2024 Federal & State Tax Returns along with any W-2's, 1099's, and 1040's directly to marovitz@asbi.org. The Marovitz fund retains the right to ask for additional financial documentation to support statements made on the financial statement. Applications and tax forms will be anonymized before review by the Marovitz Committee. Applications will not be considered unless accompanied by your 2024 Tax Forms. Lack of Financial Information on submission date will void this application.
- All Jewish schools in the greater Chicago area use FACTS, therefore the applicant can log into their existing account with FACTS and add Marovitz as an institution allowed to view their records. The 2024 tax forms should be downloaded to the FACTS account.
- Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School uses FACTS for tuition payments only, therefore BZAEDS applicants will need to pay a $35 registration fee to FACTS. These applicants can still use their FACTS account, but need to fill out a FACTS application, as well as submit the said 2024 tax documents.
- Applicants must have been a full member in good standing of Anshe Sholom B’nai Israel for at least two years to be eligible for a scholarship, and must remain a member during the period for which the scholarship applies. If an applicant, currently a member of ASBI, believes there are extenuating circumstances justifying a waiver of this two-year requirement, the reason/s for this waiver should be explained in an email to Fund Administrator Hayley Leventhal at marovitz@asbi.org prior to completing the application. The Marovitz Fund Committee has full discretion to decide whether to waive the two-year "member-in-good-standing" requirement.
- Scholarships may be forfeited and/or may be subject to repayment to ASBI in the event of a material change of circumstances, for example, but not by way of limitation if: a). an Applicant ceases to remain a member during the period for which the scholarship applies; b). a student changes schools so that the child no longer is enrolled in a Jewish educational program.
- Applications for scholarship aid are presented to the Marovitz Committee without any identifying family information. The Marovitz administrator prepares the applications for blind review by the committee. Every effort is made to preserve the privacy of the applicants applying.
- Applications and all pertinent documentation must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, June 6th, 2025. If you have any questions you can direct them to Hayley Leventhal at marovitz@asbi.org.
- Scholarship awards are sent directly to the day school to be applied to your 2025-2026 tuition.
- If you are interested in applying for a scholarship for Jewish Educational programs other than Day School, please email marovitz@asbi.org for more information.
- Members of the Scholarship Committee and their family members are not eligible for scholarships. Family members include spouses, children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, siblings, or significant others (i.e., significant or very close friends) of the Scholarship Committee members, as well as family members of spouses and foster children and foster grandchildren. If you would like to apply for a scholarship but think you might fall into one these categories, please contact Rabbi Finkelstein at Rabbi@asbi.org and inform him of the potential conflict. The Rabbi will resolve the conflict.
