Wednesday, February 14, 2024 5 Adar I 5784

7:00 PM - 9:15 PMASBI Social Hall / Beit Midrash

Join us for an evening of reflection and learning at ASBI.  From 7 – 8, ASBI Members Stuart Sprague, Ruth Lipman, and Sharon Katz will discuss their experiences on recent volunteer trips to Israel in the Social Hall, followed by a shiur with Rabbi Finkelstein from 8:15 – 9:15 in the Beit Midrash. Pizza and salad will be served.

Reflections from Israel: Hear from Stuart about his experience working with the Special IDF team in packing up materials; working at Adi-Negev (a special needs community/farm on the Negev border); as well as his experience at the Nova Music festival ruins. Hear from Ruth about the challenging work of harvesting/packing produce, the impact of the group she worked with and their reception by farmers and Israelis, and the effect this experience had on her. Additional speakers may be added.

Halakha Since October 7th: Since Simchat Torah, Israelis have had to rapidly adapt to the reality of being a country at war. During this period, rabbis in Israel have been on the ground answering and addressing a myriad of Halakhic issues. In this class, we will examine a few of these questions as well as how rabbis in Israel have responded to this crisis.
