Join us after Kiddush for a series of Shiurim with Ranana Dine this winter at ASBI.

In the male-dominated tradition of rabbinic text, the discussion and regulation of women's bodies, health, and reproductive capabilities is complex, and often disappointing (to put it mildly). But in the history of our tradition some alternative and women-written/centered descriptions of female bodily autonomy, knowledge, and authority do appear. In this 3-part series we will investigate a text from the Gemara, a text written by a woman in the 16th century, and the work of some contemporary female scholars to rethink the way women's bodies are imagined and can be used in Jewish text and tradition.

  • January 18th – Talmud
  • January 25th - Mineket Rivka
  • February 8th - Contemporary Sources

Ranana Dine spends most of her time as a PhD candidate in religious ethics at the University of Chicago, but alternatively you'll find her at shacharit on a weekday at ASBI or giving out honors as the gabbayit on Shabbat morning. She's been a member of ASBI for six years. When she's not davening or teaching classes, you'll likely find her espousing the riches of Megillat Rut.
