Dear ASBI Families,

We are excited to be able to offer a fun, meaningful, and safe slate of Camp Shana Tova (CST) programming during High Holiday services this year.

What is Camp Shana Tova?
Our goal is to provide meaningful opportunities to engage children in age-appropriate tefillah and learning over the High Holidays this year. We also hope this programming supports your ability to have a meaningful tefillah experience in shul.

Can I bring my kids to tefillah in shul?
As wonderful and fun as our Camp Shana Tova programming is, the best way for your child(ren) to learn about shul on these special days is by being in shul with you. Therefore, we invite you to plan in advance to bring your child(ren) into services with you for special moments throughout all of the High Holidays. If you have a favorite part of Tefillah, share it with your child by picking them up before and returning them afterwards. This will happen most successfully if you make a plan with your child and familiarize yourself with the schedule of Camp Shana Tova, which will be made available to you in advance.

How can I help?
It takes a village to make Camp Shana Tova happen, so we ask that each family spending their chag here with our community volunteer for at least one shift over the course of the holidays. Volunteering at CST is a wonderful way to engage with the vibrant children of our community and also keep the cost down for everyone. Please sign up in the chart below for the times you are willing to volunteer (scroll down to see all of the options) or click here. All program materials will be provided.

Who is staffing Camp Shana Tova?
There will be at least one counselor with the campers at all times and there will be a second specialist running each rotation. Our Camp Shana Tova team consists of experienced synagogue and JCC educators, along with some of our regular Tefillah staff, and community educators.

When will programming be offered?
For children aged 3 through 5th grade, we will be offering rotational programming from 10 AM - 1 PM on both mornings of Rosh Hashanah, on Kol Nidrei night from 6:15 - 8:15 PM, and on Yom Kippur Day from 10 AM - 3 PM. Kids will experience youth services with shofar, High Holiday-themed movement and yoga experiences, and High Holiday learning and activities.

For Kol Nidre, the Na'areinu program (3rd-5th graders) will begin at 6:45 PM to allow children to attend the beginning of the Kol Nidre service with their parents. Na'areinu children should then be escorted over to the JCC where we will check them in quickly.

How much does CST cost?
Camp Shana Tova is greatly subsidized by the shul. We ask for $36 per child per holiday (so, $36 for Rosh Hashanah and $36 for Yom Kippur). If this presents a difficulty, please let me know and we will be happy to work out alternative arrangements.
