Into the Orchard: An Evening of Theater & Torah Study

Sunday, June 7, 2015 20 Sivan 5775

6:30 PM - 8:00 PMASBI

Join us for an evening of original theater and chevrutah study, as actress, playwright, and Jewish educator Rebecca Joy Fletcher shares with our community a segment of her new one woman show with music, Ringing True. Ringing True tells a mostly true story of spiritual awakening involving a mysterious Roma with a man's wedding ring, 4 rabbis out of the Talmud, and an anarchist lawyer on the streets of Paris. The show goes on to explore questions of cons and blessings, making difficult choices, and the hidden connections between things. Ringing True will premier in at Miami Theater Center in January 2016; come experience a bit of it before it does!

The evening will open with small group or chevrutah study on a central text from the Talmud, the "Pardes" narrative; its the same text which Rebecca is responding to theatrically in Ringing True. Next, Rebecca will perform a half hour excerpted presentation from the show. We will conclude with an open and robust discussion between Rabbi Wolkenfeld, Rebecca, and all assembled about the Talmudic passage, Rebecca's theatrical response to it, and what relevance any of it can have for us today.

This hour and a half program will include light refreshments. This event is taking place thanks to a generous grant by the Wexner Foundation, in collaboration with Rabbi David Russo of Anshe Emet Synagogue. To learn more about Rebecca's work, please visit www.rebeccajoyfletcher.com.
