Welcoming members of Ben Gurion University’s Open Apartments Program

BGU’s Open Apartments Program houses a select group of highly motivated, talented and committed BGU students who live in rent-free apartments in disadvantaged neighborhoods in exchange for community service each week. In addition to enrichment programs, students develop programs for all neighborhood residents, including renovation projects, establishing housing committees, and setting up thrift shops, clean up and painting days. Each student also adopts a family, developing a close relationship with all family members and helping them with a variety of needs. Each year, roughly 2,000 neighborhood residents take part in more than 100 different community activities led by these students.
