Chesed
“The world stands on three things – on the Torah, on the service of Hashem and on gmilut chassadim, acts of loving kindness” (Pirkei Avos 1:2).
The Rambam (Maimonides) explains that acts of chesed include visiting and asking after the welfare of the sick, preparing a body for burial and celebrating with a bride and groom.
The ASBI Chesed Committee has been engaged in a number of activities within the community such as providing bikur cholim (visiting the sick) to members of ASBI at the Self-Help Home and Weiss Hospital, visiting with elderly members of our community, running errands for those who are unable to leave their homes and celebrating the birth of new babies by providing their tired parents with Shabbos meals. The Chesed Committee also works with the shul to provide comfort to members of our community who have lost a loved one.
Our goal is to meet some of the immediate needs of the ASBI community by providing company, comfort and food. If you are interested in participating in any of our activities or have a reason to call on us, please feel free to email us at chesed@asbi.org .
