Halacha of the Week #26
During Kedusha, one must stand still, with feet together. The most important moment of the Kedusha is when we recite “Kadosh, kadosh, kadosh…” because in that moment we are sanctifying God’s name. The custom is to rise up on your toes at each word “kadosh” (some also rise at “baruch” and “yimloch” of the later phrases) as if you are drawing yourself higher and closer to God. There is also a Kabbalistic custom (which is quoted by the Tur, a 15th-century halachic codifier) to raise your eyes and look up with your eyelids closed during Kedusha. It is understood to be a moment when we are looking up at God while God is looking down at us, and we are connecting with the Divine. (OH 125)
This series gives brief practical tips about Halachic issues that arise in daily life.
