Halacha of the Week #18

If you put food into your mouth, but have forgetten to say a bracha, but you haven’t begun chewing, you should spit it out, make the bracha, and then continue to eat. If you’ve already begun chewing, move the food to the side of your mouth and make the bracha. If you’ve begun to drink without making a bracha and the liquid is still in your mouth, it is best to spit it out, recite the bracha, and then continue to drink. If you’ve swallowed the food or drink already, you no longer make a bracha (unless, of course, there is more food in front of you). (OH 172)
